District Announcements

  • Dear Morrice Parents and Guardians,

The district was notified today that two elementary students tested positive for COVID-19. Once the district was

notified, the Shiawassee County Health Department was contacted to provide further instruction.

What does this mean for our staff and students?

    1. The students and staff identified as having direct exposure to these students have been contacted.

    2. In an effort to continue to allow parents ample time to plan for our upcoming transition to virtual learning, Morrice Elementary will stay open for face-to-face instruction on November 24th and November 25th

Continue to monitor your children for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. COVID-19 symptoms can include but are not

limited to cough, fever, shortness of breath, new loss of taste or smell, headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you

note any of the mentioned signs or symptoms in your child, please contact your healthcare provider or seek a COVID-19 test by calling 2-1-1 or visiting

We appreciate your continued support of keeping our staff and children safe and healthy,

    Michael R. Dewey

  • Dear Morrice Families,
Morrice Area Schools is fortunate to have been able to start the 2020 school year with face-to-face and remote instruction. The ability to learn and teach in a face-to-face setting is incredibly beneficial to our staff and students.
During the course of the school year, we have kept health and safety at the forefront of everything we do. That includes carefully monitoring COVID-19 transmission rates across the county and, when necessary in response to infections, temporarily transitioning students to remote learning.
Given recent increases in transmission, we have reached a point in our county’s infection rate where we find it necessary for ALL students, Prek – 12, to transition to remote learning. Beginning Monday, November 30, all school buildings will proceed with remote instruction for all students until January 11, 2021.
Below you can find some important guidance to provide some answers. As always, we are committed to academic excellence, community-building, and social-emotional support for your child—no matter where they are learning.
    Devices for Remote Learning
If you have not already been contact by staff inquiring about the device needs of your student, please contact the building secretary:
    Jr/Sr High School 517-625-3141

    Meals for Students

    Virtual Schedule
Please refer to our Extended COVID-19 Learning Plan for the virtual schedule for all students. The plan can be found at:
    Two-Way Communication
Staff and students MUST conduct two 2-way communications each week. Weeks run from Wednesday to the following Tuesday. This can be accomplished by attending all zoom lessons, answering phone calls from staff, answering e-mails from staff, etc. It is imperative that students attend scheduled zoom lessons. If a student does not attend a scheduled zoom lessons they will be marked VNP (Virtual Non Participating).
All athletics are suspended until further notice. This includes practices.

It is not lost on my staff and myself the tremendous stress our parents and students are under during this pandemic. This decision was not an easy one for my administration or the Morrice Board of Education. We continue to stay committed to returning to face-to-face learning as soon as possible and deemed safe. Thank you for your grace and patience during these unprecedented times.
We know that our community will continue to stay #OrioleStrong, we will get through this together!

  • Beginning Wednesday, November 18, Morrice Jr/Sr High School ONLY (7th through 12th grade) will be closed for three weeks as a result of the MDHHS epidemic order given tonight. This closure is part of the continued efforts to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus / COVID-19.

During this three-week closure, students in grades 7th through 12th will shift to remote learning. These students will continue with the online “practice” day on November 17th. The Jr/Sr High School building will be open from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. on November 17th for students to come in and gather belongings they will need during the three-week closure.

    Please note the following:

    • All extracurricular activities, including Athletics will be suspended immediately until further notice. This includes practices and contests.

    • Elementary students will resume face-to-face learning on November 18, 2020 as scheduled.

    • The details for the distribution of breakfast/lunch for students learning remotely will be posted to our school facebook page and website tomorrow, November 16th.

At this time, the Morrice Jr/Sr High School building is scheduled to reopen on December 8, 2020. This remains a developing situation, and Morrice Area Schools will continue to communicate with families and staff.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  • Dear Morrice Parents & Students:

I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the district strives to plan effectively in the event of a school closure.

In order to make a potential transition to remote learning as seamless as possible, the district will not be providing face-to-face learning on November 17, 2020. Instead, all students will attend classes remotely for that day. This will allow the district to conduct a remote learning “practice run” for the day.

As you are aware, transitioning to remote learning can be difficult for all involved. We are confident that having this “practice run” will help work out most of the difficulties that face students and staff during a remote learning transition.

As always, thank you for your patience and grace during this incredibly strenuous time. Morrice is a strong community and we will all get through this together! #OrioleStrong

    Sincerely Yours,

    Michael R. Dewey
