• Mr. Richard Dunham

Hello Morrice Elementary School Parents and Students,

My name is Richard Dunham and I am honored to be the new Principal of Morrice Elementary School.  I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to you.

I grew up in Lansing, Michigan and attended school in the Lansing Waverly School District graduating from Waverly High School.  I attended Central Michigan University on a football scholarship and was fortunate to be a starting running back on the 1974 Division II National Championship team.

I graduated from CMU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and History.  I later earned my Master’s Degree as well from CMU in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology.

I began my teaching career in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and taught there for 23 years at both the Middle School and Elementary School level with the last 17 years at the elementary level.  I left Eaton Rapids to become the Elementary Principal with the Byron Area Schools and held that position for 3 years before being named as the Superintendent for the Laingsburg Community Schools.  I was in that position for 6 years before retiring from public education and began work in the private sector with the Michigan Association of School Boards.

I have been married to my wife Sheila for 48 years.  We have two daughters Sara and Lisa.  Sheila and I have two granddaughters Madelynn and Camille and we are also blessed to have one great grandson Richard Patrick and one great granddaughter Paityn Angelika.

I am an avid hunter and when time permits, I like to spoil a good walk by playing golf.  In recent years I have taken up playing the ukulele.  When I am not playing my “ukes”, I try to spend a couple hours a week playing my piano.

I am looking forward to meeting the parents and students at Morrice Elementary School and having your child(ren) experiencing their best year ever.

    Educationally,

    Richard Dunham
